Warranty terms
Twelve months when we fit the engine, six months when you fit it yourself. These are the full terms — what is covered, what is not, and exactly what to do if something goes wrong.
Fitted by us
12 months
Unlimited mileage. Covers parts and the labour to rectify, carried out at our workshop in Swanscombe.
Supply only
6 months
Parts only. The engine must be installed by a VAT-registered garage or qualified mechanic, and you must keep the fitting invoice.
What the warranty covers
The warranty covers failure of the components we rebuilt, caused by defective workmanship or defective parts supplied by us. In practice that is everything inside the engine:
- Cylinder block and all internal machined surfaces
- Crankshaft, main bearings and big-end bearings
- Pistons, piston rings and connecting rods
- Cylinder head, valves, valve seats and valve stem seals
- Camshaft and camshaft bearings
- Oil pump and water pump supplied as part of the rebuild
- Timing chain or belt kit supplied as part of the rebuild
- Head gasket and all gaskets and seals fitted during the rebuild
What the warranty does not cover
A reconditioned engine is only as reliable as the vehicle it goes into. Most warranty problems trace back to something outside the engine that was not addressed at the same time, so please read this list carefully:
- Damage caused by incorrect installation or incorrect timing
- Overheating, including failure of the vehicle's cooling system, radiator, thermostat or water pump not supplied by us
- Oil starvation, incorrect oil grade, or failure to carry out the first oil change
- Contaminated, incorrect or degraded fuel, and injector or fuel pump failure
- Turbocharger failure where the turbo was not supplied by us, and any consequential damage
- Ancillary components transferred from your original engine (alternator, starter, injectors, sensors, flywheel, clutch, DPF, EGR)
- Damage from continued running after a fault or warning light appeared
- Normal wear items, routine servicing, and any labour not carried out by us on supply-only engines
Conditions you must meet
- The engine must be installed by a qualified mechanic, with the cooling system flushed and the radiator, thermostat and hoses checked or replaced as needed.
- The oil and oil filter must be changed at 500 miles after fitting, then at the manufacturer's normal service interval. Keep the receipts — this is the single most common reason a claim is refused.
- Use the oil grade specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that engine.
- Any fault must be reported to us before further work is carried out. Work done elsewhere without our written agreement is not recoverable.
- The old engine (core) must be returned to us within 14 days of delivery, complete and drained.
How to make a claim
Call us on +44 7446 816607 or email info@refurbished-engine.co.uk as soon as the fault appears, and stop driving the vehicle. Have your invoice number, the vehicle registration, the fitting date and the current mileage ready, along with the oil change receipts. We will arrange inspection — at our workshop where practical, or through the fitting garage where it is not.
Where a claim is accepted, we repair or replace the engine. We do not cover consequential losses such as hire vehicles, loss of earnings or recovery costs unless we have agreed to those in writing beforehand.
Your statutory rights
This warranty is given in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and does not affect them. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
These terms apply to engines supplied by Great Brit Deals Ltd from 29 September 2026. If your invoice refers to different terms, the terms on the invoice apply.
